Mr. Charles Van Tanner, age 70, of Cedartown, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2009. He was born in Polk, GA on April 21, 1939.

Van's love for sports made him a talented athlete, which took him to new heights in golf. After his graduation from Cedartown High School he later became golf pro at the Country Club of York for seventeen years and at the Dunedin Country Club for ten years. One of his major accomplishments included his years as golf pro at Burning Tree Golf Course. Van had bragging rites to an also impossible feat in the golf world; in 2004 he shot less than his age...a 63 at the age of 65.

Mr. Tanner is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Tanner and Mildred Morris Tanner.

He is survived by his two daughters, Donna Obarski and Tracey Baker; sons, Brad Tanner and Troy Tanner; four grandchildren, Josh Tanner, Jennifer Tanner, Roman Obarski, and Sydney Obarski; and cousins, Dr. Jerry Weaver, Wayne Weaver, and Herschel Wright.

The memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 15, 2009 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Olin L. Gammage & Sons Funeral Home.
