Mr. Charles Van Powell, Sr., age77, of 270 Esom Hill Loop Cedartown passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2004. He was born December 21, 1927 in Polk County, son of the late Mallory Chelsey Powell and Mamie Lou Stephens Powell.

He is preceded in death by brothers, Paul Floyd Powell, Chesley William "CW" Powell, Clarence "Bud" Jack Powell, sisters, Mary Ann Powell and Jo Ann Powell.

Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Frances Moncrief Powell, son, Charles Van Powell, Jr. of Cedartown, daughters, Sherry Tracy and Cathy Smith of Cedartown, and Kay Ayer of Rome. His surviving sisters and brothers are Ruth Powell Cook of Portsmouth, VA, and Louise Powell Smith of Cedartown, Earnest Edward Powell and John Barney Powell of Cedartown. Ten grandchildren and one great grandson also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Van Powell Sr. will be conducted Friday, December 24th at 11:00 pm at the Cedartown Church of Christ with Minister James Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Northview Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Van Powell, Richard Ayer, Aaron Smith, Jimmy Holland, Brad Tracy, Steve Lawrence, Larry Bentley, and Mark Watters. Honorary Pallbearers are the grandchildren: Leah Tracy Brandon, Kara Tracy Lawrence, Morgan Brad Tracy, Carrie Powell, Cody Powell, Alex Powell, Shi Laffitte, Jake Ayer, Hunter Ayer, Raven Ayer and Great Grandson Drake Brandon.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 23rd from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the funeral home.
