Mr. Charles Elmer Grimes, age 96, of Cedartown, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2011. He was born on December 8, 1914 in Cullman, Alabama; he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Fletcher and Lou Mary Herndon Grimes.
Mr. Grimes was retired after working for many years at Diamond Shamrock.
Mr. Grimes is survived by his daughters and son-in-laws, Bonnie Grimes Hutcheson and Ralph and Susan Grimes Hulsey and Cecil; daughter-in-law, Carolyne Grimes; sons and daughter-in-laws, Allen Grimes and Sylvia and Dennis Grimes and Diane; sister, Mary Estelle Greer; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Mr. Grimes is preceded in death by his wife, Lovella Emeline Stephens Grimes; daughter, Virginia Louise Grimes; son, Billy Lee Grimes; brother, Morris Grimes; and granddaughter, Lisa Grimes Heath.
The funeral arrangements for Mr. Grimes will be conducted on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at eleven o'clock in the morning in the Chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Pyles and Mr. Charles Allen Grimes officiating.
Interment will follow in the Polk Memory Gardens Cemetery.
The family of Mr. Grimes will receive family and friends on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 from six o'clock in the evening until nine o'clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.
