Mrs. Carmie Whitton Chandler, age 97, of Cedartown, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2007 after an extended illness. She was born August 22, 1909 in Buchanan.
Mrs. Chandler was a member of First Baptist Church in Cedartown.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Chandler and her husband owned and operated Chandler Shoe Store, on Main Street in Cedartown, for over 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Richard T. Chandler; parents, James Robert Whitton and Etta Perryman Whitton; son, Robert L. Chandler and brothers, Dewey Whitton, Doyce Whitton, Wilbur Whitton and Lee Whitton.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-Law, Fran Chandler Sherrell and Wil of Niceville, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Richard E. "Dicky" Chandler and Laura of Cedartown; daughter-in-law, Eva Chandler of Aiken, S.C. and sister, Burma Dennis of Forest Park. Also surviving are 8 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.
The funeral services for Mrs. Chandler will be conducted on Wednesday, May 30th at 11:00a.m. in the Chapel of the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home with nephew, Dr. Levoyd Whitton and Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating with the eulogy by grandson, Colonel Chandler Sherrell. The interment service will follow in Polk Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday May 30th from 9:30a.m. until the funeral hour at the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Michael Chandler, Greg Chandler, Jeff Chandler, Chandler Sherrell, Chad Chandler, Ryan Chandler, David Chandler and Robert Van Atta, husband of Mrs. Chandler's only granddaughter, Cherie Sherrell Van Atta.
