Mrs. Bettye Sligh Owens Chandler, age 76, of Cedartown, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017. She was born on January 9, 1941, in Cave Spring, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Hugh W. and Ruby Bradfield Sligh.

Mrs. Chandler loved her family and was an avid Atlanta Falcons fan that saw the very first game in 1966 and the very last game played in the Georgia Dome. She and her dear friend, Debra Farmer, attended every home game. "Mrs. Bettye" never met a stranger and no one ever heard the word "no" leave her mouth!

Mrs. Chandler is survived by her husband, Dewey Chandler; daughters and sons-in-law, Lyn Jett Knowles and Patrick Kelly, Rebekah Jett Lyles and Wayne, and Tammy Floyd and Tony Mitchell; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Jett, Lamar and Gaynell Owens, Keith and Teresa Owens and Toby and Ginger Chandler; grandchildren, Lynsey Knowles, Lara Knowles, Logan Knowles, Austen Atkins, Jeb Hays, Henley Hays, Ashley Shepherd, Brittany Lyles, Adelyn Lyles, Halie Bissell, Heath Owens, Chris Owens and Dena Stroup, and ten great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Chandler is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Bobby Jett; second husband, Kelly Owens, and grandchild, Chase Floyd.

The funeral arrangements for Mrs. Bettye Sligh Owens Chandler will be conducted on Friday, August 25, 2017, at eleven o'clock in the morning in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Snapp, Rev. Danny Tucker, and Mr. Patrick Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in the Northview Cemetery with Rev. Jamie Newsome officiating.

The family of Mrs. Chandler will receive family and friends on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from five o'clock in the evening until eight o'clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The family is accepting flowers; however, donations can also be made to a charity of your choosing.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Robert Odom, Vern Miller, Leroy Peugh, Joe Wayne Zebeau, Mark Brady, Frankie Waits, Marvin Mobbs, Bobby Moats, Greg Shelley, Greer Hooper and Tommy Britt. Honorary pallbearers will be the Polk County Sheriff's office staff and other law enforcement employees of Polk County.
