Allen Lawrence Miller, 88, of Fayetteville, Georgia, formerly of Cedartown, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019.  He was born on May 15, 1930, in Polk County, the son of the late Walter Teamus Miller and Mrs. Pluma Collins Miller.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Martha Darlene Smith Miller; sisters, Fannie East, Daisy Packer, Pauline Packer, Esther Miller, Irene Strickland and Katie Mae Strickland; brothers, Accie Miller, Grover Miller, Norris Miller, and Seals Miller.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna Gail Thompson, and his son, Jerry Miller (Darlene); his grandchildren, Nathan Hardeman (Angel), John Garrett Thompson (Christine), Martha "Marly" Emily Thompson Hinks (Nathan), Amanda Miller Baird (Geoff), and Dwayne Miller (Libby); and his great-grand children, Joshua Hardeman, Madeline Hardeman, Caleb Hardeman, Stephen Hardeman, Zoe Hardeman, Will Hardeman, Jack Hardeman, Abigail Thompson, Gideon Thompson, Gregory Allen Russell Baird (born on Mr. Miller's birthday), Karoline Miller, Zach Miller, Malachi Miller, and Corbin Miller; nieces and nephews.

He attended Cedartown High School. His employment began locally with Frew's Furniture in Cedartown, then stretched to the City of Atlanta as an airport policeman. Later in life, he expanded his career even further by owning and operating an Exxon Gas Station while also working as a gate agent at Eastern Airlines.  He was a member of the Georgia National Guard in Cedartown, retiring with 20 years of service as a Major.  After retirement from Eastern Airlines, he stayed active by joining the courier industry.

His health began to decline due to the demands placed on the courier industry by the events of 9/11.  Because human donor hearts and tissue could not be delivered by air during this time, lifesaving deliveries required couriers to drive extraordinary distances across state lines.  On the return from one such delivery in Texas with little to no sleep, he suffered a stroke which took a significant part of his eye sight.

To his brothers and sisters, he was always known as the little brother water boy, being the youngest of 11 children.  His family farmed for a living and he carried water to his brothers and sisters in the fields. Growing up his favorite past time was walking in the woods.  His love of nature continued into adulthood, leading him to enjoy working in the yard most of all. His beloved hobbies also included playing the guitar and singing classic country music.  In addition, he had a profound sense of humor, prompting many amusing aphorisms for which he is endearingly remembered by family and friends.  His commitment to his local community led him to join the National Optimist Club where he eventually became a Distinguished President of Fayetteville's chapter.

The funeral service for Mr. Allen Lawrence Miller will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 at three o'clock in the afternoon in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ryan McElheney officiating. Interment will follow in the Northview Cemetery with full military rites.

The family of Mr. Miller will receive family and friends on Monday, January 7, 2019 from one o'clock in the afternoon until the funeral hour at the Gammage Funeral Home.

His great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers:  Joshua Hardeman, Caleb Hardeman, Stephen Hardeman, Will Hardeman, Gregory Baird, and Zach Miller.
